Beards, oh yes, oh my.

Posted by blogalog on March 9, 2009

Since January, I have been growing a beard, I said it was my  ‘playoff beard’ because it was the start of our last semester.

I love growing beards. I first did it when I was in South Africa and have on occasion done it again, and again, and again… I find it is a fun, hairy, and scary experience.

My old roommate at university and I had tremendous fun shaving my beard down to handle bars, a gotee and a mustache. She was a photographer and took pictures of the ‘take down’, but had a hard time taking a picture of me with the mustache because she was laughing way so hard.

Beards are fun, every man should grow one.

Please don’t make fun of anyone who is trying to grow a beard and it looks patchy–it takes time. Oh yes, time, a beard is like a garden and it needs to be cultivated, you have to let it grow then prune it before it manifest its true glory.

Please think of beards as hat’s for chin’s . A simple accessory

Toronto’s hippest shutter bug

Kevin Parnell takes Toronto’s independent music scene by storm.
Kevin Parnell one of the leading photographers and videographers of Toronto’s independent music community whose work is visionary. He is constantly pushing himself to find new and interesting ways to shoot Toronto independent music community. Kevin took it upon himself to break the mould for how bands were to be filmed and photographed. For instance, the typical ‘standing against a brick wall with their instruments’ photo shoots.
His method was to create a scenario or a story in the picture and allow the bands to be seen as he told me “…like showing more personality, showing them that they are more then beings on a stage.” It is that playfulness, that uniqueness that is indicative in all of Kevin’s work. Once he completed his arts degree at the University of Toronto, he found himself going to many independent music shows and taking pictures wondering what he was going to do with all of them. As he puts it, he went “Hey, I’m a photographer this is what I can contribute, photographing bands and I started a website (Aperture Enzyme) and got like instantly welcomed into the community.”
